A 39-year-old man is fighting for life after a seemingly unprovoked attack at a bus stop on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast hinterland.
A bystander has recounted the moment he stepped in to help in dramatic scenes, stating he would have been in “big trouble” without his MMA training.
Police were called to the Nambour bus interchange on Civic Way about 3.15pm yesterday after receiving reports of an alleged assault.

Adam Morton, 39, was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remained tonight in a critical condition.
Police believe the attacker fled the scene.
“It was seemingly random attacks on these two victims and appears to have been unprovoked at this stage,” Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield told reporters today.
“We are concerned. He seemingly looked under the influence of some substances and was behaving quite erratically at the scene.
“He has assaulted two people randomly so is potentially dangerous to approach.”
Video obtained by 9News shows bystander James William trying to restrain the attacker.
But the younger man eventually slipped away and, police believe, coward punched Morton moments later, before stomping on him while he lay on the ground.
William said he stepped in to try to protect those around him.
“He was going crazy, and like, if I hadn’t known any jujitsu, I would have been in big trouble,” he told 9News.
William was also taken to hospital after having his tooth knocked out during the ordeal.
“He targeted some poor guy, king hit him, and before I could turn around and get over there, he’s already stomped on his head, probably like 10 times,” William said.
Mansfield said there were no weapons involved.
“We will be alleging there was stomping involved on the 39-year-old victim,” he said.
“He was seemingly unconscious on the ground and then he continued to kick him in the head and the back.
“It was a brutal attack.”
Police described the third man as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 20s and 175 centimetres tall.
He was wearing a grey jumper, dark shorts, and thongs.
Police called for anyone who saw or filmed the fight to come forward.
