ABC iview is the #1 free to air BVOD service year to date, ABC has claimed.

Hit shows including Bluey, Muster Dogs, Gruen, Hard Quiz, Total Control, Spicks & Specks and Austin have driven up audiences in 2024.

ABC’s Head of Programming, Acquisitions & Streaming, Roberta Allan said “The impressive growth on ABC iview and our broadcast platforms in 2024 speaks to the strength of our slate across multiple genres and audience segments. The ABC continues to enhance and develop ABC iview, with improved personalisation and functionality, alongside an increase in the volume of available titles and binged content.”

A strong start to 2024 was marked by the outstanding success of political docu-series Nemesis, which achieved a total average audience of 2 million across all three compelling episodes. The return of the series that stole the hearts of Australian audiences, Muster Dogs delivered a per episode total audience of 1.8 million on ABC TV and ABC iview for its second season, with episode 1 peaking at over 2.1million including over 520,000 viewers on ABC iview.

Critically acclaimed landmark Indigenous drama, Total Control secured a series average Total Audience of just over 1 million for the third and final season. It also sits firmly as the #1 commissioned drama of the year based on total audience across ABC TV and ABC iview.

Momentum carried through with Darby and Joan, and critically acclaimed After the Party, to successful new scripted commissions Austin and Ladies in Black. Austin is sitting as the #1 comedy on ABC iview and Ladies In Black is the top commissioned drama on ABC iview YTD.

New lifestyle series, Grand Designs Transformations also captured over 1m per episode average audience and is positioned as the #1 lifestyle program of the year on ABC iview.

Loyal audiences of entertainment favourites Spicks and Specks, Gruen and Hard Quiz also continue to sustain with all titles regularly placed within the top 20 programs based on Total TV National Reach*.

The strength of the ABC’s children’s slate continues to be anchored by global success Bluey, which sits firmly as the highest performing ABC iview program ever. ‘The Sign’, the 28-minute special episode of the series secured over 5 million average audience on ABC iview alone, alongside hitting a broadcast record for ABC Kids. And the first two seasons of local series Ginger and the Vegesaurs, continuing to hold strong alongside the recent release of season three.

Across the next six months, the ABC will continue to deliver even more original content complimented by a collection of acquisitions to Australian audiences in 2024.

Key upcoming highlights include Shaun Micallef’s Eve of Destruction, Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee, The Assembly, Return to Paradise, Plum, Muster Dogs: Where Are They Now?, Take 5 with Zan Rowe, Question Everything, Grand Designs Australia, Headliners and Fisk.
