Nine’s Andy Lee, host of The Hundred has his fourth nomination for the TV Week Gold Logie.
How does it feel to be a Gold Logie nominee for 2024?
AL: Deja vu. I think I’m up against Asher Keddie again, who beat me last time, I feel like St Kilda Football Club. I can get to the finals, but I never win anything.
What’s been the highlight of your TV work over the past year?
AL: Definitely, The Hundred. I just love doing the show. It’s so much fun having all my mates come on, different comedians and personalities, and then the fact that I get to hang out with 100 everyday Australians every time we do the show. It’s really special.
Give us your best campaign lobbying… why should viewers vote for you?
AL: Because Hamish brings his Gold Logie in every single day when we hang out and we go to a cafe. It’s just rubbed me off the wrong way for the last 10 years. So it’d be nice to even score with Hame -even though he’s got two it’s not quite even. People ask me, ‘Have you asked Hamish for advice?’ I said, ‘No, because he was up last year and lost it. So on his current form, I don’t want his advice!
If you should be lucky enough to win, where will the award go?
AL: It’ll be out of range from my dog, because I feel like it’s the kind of thing that will chew two marks in straight away. I’m not sure whether it’s solid gold or what the actual Gold Logie is made out of, but it’s soft enough to have indentations in very quickly, if I don’t put it above waist level.
If not you… then who?
AL: If it’s not me, I think, to be honest, I think Larry. To be in the industry for that long, and he’s such a lovely person. Not that the others aren’t. But it takes a fair bit to have the longevity that he has. He still looks exactly the same as when he started, so I’d like to know how he’s doing that as well.
Meanwhile tonight on Nine, is The Hundred: Olympics special.
“It’s going to be country versus country: Kate Langbroek representing Australia, which I think is a great choice. Mike Goldstein, of course, representing America, and Guy Williams from New Zealand. So if you want to get ready to be patriotic ahead of the games, tune in to us and root for Kate,” said Lee.
“It’s pretty exciting because it’s the Olympics and the IOC are allowing people to use more of their brand and have more themed things. In the past they’ve have been very, very protective of that space for good reason. It’s a big and expensive brand, but I think they’re understanding that there’s a merge between entertainment and sport that a lot of other sports are getting really into,.
“Since being in entertainment, this is probably my fourth or fifth Olympic Games, and I remember having a lot of trouble with being able to do mentions and the wording and all that stuff. But it feels looser this time around, which is really great.”
The Hundred: Olympics special 8pm tonight on Nine.
