The mother of a man who was allegedly stabbed to death in Sydney over the weekend has told 9News that her son “had a golden heart”.

Police were called to Bangor Street in Guildford at 1.45pm on Saturday following reports of an assault.

Thirty minutes later, father of six Josese “Joseph” McGoon attended Westmead Hospital with stab wounds to his abdomen.

He underwent surgery but later passed away from the injuries.

Today, his mother, Mereoni McGoon, revealed to 9News that he called her the day before the alleged attack, apologising for something.

”He called and he kept on saying ‘Mum I love you, I’m sorry Mum’,” Mereoni said.

“I don’t know what the reason is, but he kept on repeating it.

“He’s got a golden heart… (a) happy go (lucky) man… he seems to love everybody.

“I miss him so much, that’s all. I miss him so much.”

Police were told McGoon was walking along Bangor Street with a friend when the pair were approached by a group of men and allegedly assaulted.

The 37-year-old was then driven to Westmead Hospital.

Investigators are trying to figure out who would want to harm the father of six, and say three men are still on the run.

The alleged assault is now being investigated by state crimes, as police put out an appeal for public assistance.

Mereoni said the next step for her is forgiveness.

“Forgive them… it’s happened already, we can’t do anything, my son is dead, all I can say is God bless them, that’s all,” she said.”
