A brand of dip has been recalled in two states over fears of a potential serious illness.
Paradise Beach Purveyors is recalling its 150-gram smoked trout and chive dip over listeria contamination.
“Listeria monocytogenes may cause severe illness in pregnant women, unborn babies, neonates, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals,” Food Standards Australia New Zealand said in its recall notice.

“The general population can also become ill from consuming food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.”
Symptoms of listeriosis, which is caused by listeria, include fever, muscle aches, headaches, tiredness, nausea, diarrhoea, discoloured urine, abdominal cramps.
Severe infections are often indicated by stiff necks, confusion, loss of balance, collapse, convulsions, and can result in a coma.

A few people die of listeriosis each year, according to Health Direct.
Anybody who has purchased the dip is urged to not eat it but return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The product was sold at independent retailers, including IGA, in New South Wales, as well as at Harris Farm Markets in NSW and Queensland.
