A 74-year-old man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of girl he had regularly babysat in Canberra in the late 1970s.

It comes after a report was made in November, alleging the man had committed the offences against a then-primary school-aged girl.

Police allege the man had also taken the girl to nudist gatherings at a pool, bathed with her at his home and committed acts of indecency.
