A young woman is under police guard in hospital today after a teenager died in a car crash on the Pacific Highway in New South Wales.
The 17-year-old boy was a passenger in a station wagon which smashed into a tree at Charmhaven on the state’s Central Coast about 1.30am. He was killed on impact.
Police say he has yet to be formally identified.

The 19-year-old female driver left the scene but was found a short time later.
She was taken to Gosford Hospital where she is under police guard.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
The Pacific Highway was closed in both directions between Moala Parade and Jetty Avenue, Charmhaven, with local diversions in place.
