A group cycling session in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills has taken a tragic turn with one of the riders losing his life in a crash.
The man was riding with two others just after 8am today when he cycled ahead and out of sight before his friends realised something had gone wrong.
The victim’s riding companions saw the damaged road sign and quickly began a search for their friend.

One local resident, who asked not to be identified, arrived on the scene moments later.
“His bike went straight off the road into a barrier and then catapulted him into a bush,” the resident said.
“They were pretty distraught, they didn’t know how to do CPR, which was a bit sad.
“By the time that I got there they had only just found him anyway because he more or less just disappeared out of sight.”
The witness tried to revive the victim but the 49-year-old from Tonsley in Adelaide’s southern suburbs died at the scene.
“For anybody who wants to travel quickly downhill in the Hills just be careful,” he said.
