How does it feel to be a Gold Logie nominee for 2024?
Being nominated for a Gold Logie is definitely not something that you set out to do, but when it happens, it’s a bit humbling really. In an industry where you don’t necessarily reflect too often, it gives you good cause to pause and reflect and look back on the year that was.
What’s been the highlight of your TV work over the past year?
The highlight has probably been going away to shoot a couple of documentary-style shows. I guess it’s been a nice step out of the studio and into the wild, so to speak. That’s been really fun just seeing the response that those shows have gotten. A lot of hard work goes into a lot of things and it’s been good to see a lot of people feeling seen and feeling appreciated for all the work that we’ve done.
Give us your best campaign lobbying. Why should viewers vote for you?
Ah, f***! Viewers should vote for me because they would then be a positive part of history if that campaign is successful, because no Aboriginal person’s ever won this award before. I think it’s a bit late for pats on the back around this, but it’d be cool to be the first.
If you should be lucky enough to win, where will the award go?
Ah, jeez, that’s a really good question. I’ll probably just go on a rolling tour to all of my friends’ houses and just rub it in their face that I’ve actually won a f***ing Gold Logie! No, I don’t know, probably just with the other ones down the back of the house. I’ve got like a little office, so probably in there. I mean, I act like the office is really humble but you can see the office from the front room. So you can see all the awards, it’s like a sense of false modesty. Everyone can f***ing see them the whole time.
If not you, then who?
I’d love to see Julia Morris win it. She’s honestly, she is so funny. She’s funnier, if you can believe this, in real life than she is even on camera. And she’s hilarious on camera. I mean, she’s just been amazing on TV for so long. I think someone like her deserves to feel like she is appreciated as well. And she’s naturally self-deprecating, and I think that comes from self-preservation. But she’s a star. It’d be awesome to see her win.
