Black said Schloss had been a long-time employee of QCoal and had been involved with developing Byerwen, near the mining town of Glenden, since its launch.
“The death of such a long-serving, senior and well-loved member of the QCoal team has obviously left us shocked,” Black said.
“His family is coming to terms with the worst news you can possibly hear, and we are helping them through this tragedy.”
Black said Schloss’ death was an “incredible loss”.
He said support for staff on- and off-site was also being offered.
QCoal is working with the government and police about the incident that led to Schloss’s death.
Schloss is survived by his wife Amanda, and children Magan, Thomas, Kate, Memphys, and Zara.
