NSW Police have arrested more than 200 people across Sydney in a major crime crackdown.

Police Transport Command officers arrested 227 of the worst public transport offenders, with more than 400 charges laid.

More than 200 officers saturated the public transport network during Operation Waratah, which began last month, and with help from specialist police there were multiple search warrants and firearm prohibition order compliance checks executed across the city.

Assistant Commissioner Stephen Hegarty warned would-be offenders police “plan to continue to run this operation”.

“This is the first Operation Waratah, but it won’t be the last,” he said.

“We intend to use the full power of the NSW Police to continue to crackdown on violent crimes across our public transport network.”
