A man has been charged with domestic violence and animal cruelty offences after several alleged incidents against a woman and her pet scorpions on New South Wales’ south coast.
Officers from the Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team begun investigations after receiving several reports of ongoing domestic violence incidents in Sussex Inlet.
Police will allege a 29-year-old man physically assaulted a 24-year-old woman known to him between February and June.

“The alleged assaults included choking the woman on one occasion, damaging her property, and killing her pet scorpions on another occasion,” police said.
Following inquiries, officers tried to arrest the man at a caravan park on River Road in Sussex Inlet yesterday but he allegedly ran and jumped in a nearby river.
He was eventually arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station where he was charged with several domestic violence offences including assault actual bodily harm, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, intentionally choke etc person without consent and destroy and damage property.
He was also charged with torture beat etc and cause death of animal and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
The 29-year-old was refused bail and appeared at Nowra Local Court yesterday, where he was granted conditional bail ahead of his next appearance at Wollongong Local Court on August 22.
