Homicide detectives are still trying to piece together what happened before two university students were found dead in an inner-west Sydney apartment complex yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the building on Conder Street in Burwood following a report for welfare at 8.45am yesterday.

The body of a 21-year-old man was found in the courtyard of the complex while the body of a 21-year-old woman was found inside a unit with stab wounds.

9News understands the couple were Chinese nationals who both attended The University of Sydney.

They had only moved to Sydney a few months ago. 

Neither has been formally identified, however, police believe said ealrier today that they were known to each other.

Post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted in the next few days, which will confirm the identity of both victims and determine the cause of death.

Superintendent Christine McDonald, Commander, Burwood Police Area Command said yesterday that it was too early in the investigation to determine if the deaths were “domestic-violence related”.

He also said the man had ankle injuries, and it was possible that he had jumped from a unit.

A weapon was found at one of the crime scenes.

Investigators also said yesterday that CCTV showed a woman walking to the apartment earlier that morning.

Two crime scenes were established and investigations continue.
