Longtime television presenter, and bonafide nice guy, Larry Emdur has won the Gold Logie for 2024.

“40 years I’ve been in the business,” the The Morning Show and The Chase host said.

“I was so convinced if I won I’d have all the initials of the nominees tattooed on my arse tomorrow morning!

“I love being in TV, and I love being on TV, and I’ve never done anything else, and I’ve never ever wanted to do anything else,” he said.

He referred to himself as, “Television’s most axed man….. there’s been some terrible times as well, and some times of self doubt for sure. After all of those axings, plenty of times where I’ve had to think, ‘Am I right for this? Do I look right? Do I sound right? Am I in the right business?’

He acknowledged The Chase team and The Morning Show gang.

“I wrote in my book, which is now available in all good clearance bins, that Kylie (Gillies) and I sat on The Morning Show couch to audition 17 years ago, and we clicked, and we’ve never unclicked, and it’s terrific. We say we get married at 9 o’clock every morning, divorced at 11:29….although now that I’m 60, I need to get closer to the toilet, so sometimes it’s 11:28.”

Emdur’s win bettered his fellow nominees Julia Morris, Robert Irwin, Andy Lee, Asher Keddie, Sonia Kruger and Tony Armstrong.

He also thanked family including his late father who passed on advice on very first day going to the Channel Seven newsroom as a cub reporter.

“I said, ‘Dad, what do I do in there for my job?’ And he goes, ‘Mate, just be nice to everyone. Just be nice to everyone.’ And that was 40 years ago, and I remember to this day, but I came home after a couple of weeks and Dad said, ‘How’s it going?’ I said, ‘Dad, I’m trying, but there’s so many arseholes in this business -like so many!’”

He thanked wife Sylvie and his kids aged 25 and 30.

“They haven’t watched Free to Air TV in about 15 years, but they are proud of me for one thing, and apparently out there, it’s rhyming slang now that if you’re going on a bender, you’re going on a Larry Emdur!”

He added, “This is so so special to me. I want to always remember the time that I was nominated for a Gold Logie. Let’s get on the Larry Emdur, everyone. Thank you so much.”
