A Melbourne business owner has fought off a group of offenders who broke into his car yard earlier this year.

Mourad Jawad, the owner of Spot On Motors, received a call from his security company about 3.30am on May 29, alerting him to the break-in at his Hoppers Crossing business.

Jawad told 9News he rushed to the scene to confront the group and protect his property.

CCTV shows the moment he said the group believed they had pulled off the robbery of a V8 Commodore and a Mustang.

“We got them on camera, they thought they had hit jackpot. But they didn’t know I was coming,” Jawad said.

“I hope they come again, I’ll show them something better.”

After notifying police, he arrived at the property and used his car to box-in the armed offenders.

“I worked too hard so why should I let thieves take what I work hard for,” he said.

“I got a family to feed so I thought I would give them a ram so they wouldn’t come back.

“They ran for their life.”

During the incident, the group also broke into the office, knocking over Jawad’s pet bird Smokey.

”The bird, she was inside when they kicked the door in, she fell on the floor. She was in shock for a whole week,” he said.

“Lucky they didn’t get my bird.”

Police have arrested and charged three men aged 33, 30 and 28 over the incident. The trio have been bailed.
