BMW has recalled 26,491 cars over a manufacturing defect that is causing an issue with the braking system.

The notice is for MINI and Alpina X models between 2022 to 2024.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, signal interference may occur within the electronics of the brake system,” the recall said.

“If the fault occurs, a higher pedal force may be required for braking.

“The anti-lock braking system and dynamic stability control will also not be available.”

The fault means drivers, in some instances, will need to allow more space to brake to prevent a collision.

“A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident resulting in injury to the vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and other road users,” the recall said.

The cars are still, however, controllable.

Owners of affected cars will be notified by their brake warning light and a message on the central display.

They are urged to follow the instructions provided and action any remote software update if requested on their car’s central display.

Then, they should promptly contact their nearest BMW dealer.

BMW has also reached out to customers via written communication.
