Season nine of the AFLW competition begins this week across Seven, live and in HD, with a new analysis show, Talking W added to the schedule.

For the entire AFLW season, fans can now stream weekly matches live and on demand on 7plus.

Talking W host and 7AFL commentator Abbey Holmes said: “After an unbelievable 25 weeks of the AFL season, I couldn’t be more pumped to have arrived at the beginning of another AFL Women’s season.

“The players have been working incredibly hard throughout a long off season to ensure they are prepped, primed and ready to roll, so we can all be assured the game will go to yet another level in season nine.

“North Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane are once again three sides that I feel will be the hardest to beat this season, however I’m very excited to see what a young Hawthorn group can do under the new leadership of Daniel Webster,” she said.

“From all reports, Ebony Marinoff is the fittest she has ever been, and is set to light up the Adelaide midfield group again, but I think the big stories this season will surround the next generation of AFLW stars, I’m tipping Ella Roberts and Jas Fleming to set the competition on fire.

“On top of the excitement for another epic season, I cannot wait to sit alongside Kate McCarthy to deliver all the biggest talking points every Monday for Talking W. Kate has an incredible footy brain, with a deep passion and knowledge of AFLW and I couldn’t think of anyone better to sit beside to analyse the game we both love so much,” Holmes said.

Seven’s Head of AFL and Sport Innovation, Gary O’Keeffe said: “We have reached an exciting point of the AFLW story, and we cannot wait for footy fans across the nation to see what this season has in store.

“Every year since the competition began, we have witnessed these athletes go to another level, and season nine will be no different.

“With a group of many of the game’s biggest names and most trusted voices behind the mic for Seven, bolstered by the competition’s most successful player, Erin Phillips, and unrivalled access to the AFLW’s biggest stars, there is no better place to be this season than right here on Seven and 7plus, Your Home of Footy,” he said.

Network Director of Sport, Chris Jones said: “This season, Seven will deliver footy fans more AFL Women’s content than ever before, and we couldn’t be more excited.

“With the introduction of a brand new weekly AFLW analysis show, Talking W, led by two of football media’s most respected voices Abbey Holmes and Kate McCarthy, alongside a cavalcade of special guests, footy fans will be absolutely spoiled with content on Seven and 7plus.

“As we embark on a new digital era for sport in Australia, where everyone can stream every round of the footy and the Australian summer of Cricket live and free on 7plus, there’s never been a more exciting time,” he said.

In a massive bonus for fans, dual AFLW Best and Fairest Award winner and South Australian women’s football icon, Erin Phillips, will join Seven’s AFLW team for the 2024 season following her first full season behind the mic for Seven’s men’s AFL coverage

Fresh off the back of her decorated career with Adelaide and Port Adelaide, Phillips will be part of Seven’s commentary team for the opening clash between the Sydney Swans and Collingwood, under the Friday night lights at North Sydney Oval from 7.00pm AEST live on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus.

In addition to the team’s new recruit, Seven also welcomes back a star-studded line up of the game’s best callers and experts in 2024, including Jason Bennett, Libby Birch, Nigel Carmody, Natalie Edwards, Melissa Hickey, Abbey Holmes, Sam Lane, Kate McCarthy, Alister Nicholson, Sarah Olle and Jo Wotton.

Seven’s AFLW team will also include 7NEWS’ Ryan Daniels, Theo Doropoulos, Anna Hay, Kate Massey, Alissa Smith and Laura Spurway for matches in their home states. Joining them will be former AFLW player Akec Makur Chuot, in her commentary debut.

Throughout Round One, a group of the game’s most well-known voices – Matthew Richardson, Dale Thomas and Nathan Jones – will also form part of Seven’s commentary.

Following the excitement of Round One, footy fans will be treated to more women’s footy content when Seven launches its brand new weekly AFLW talk show, Talking W, starring host Abbey Holmes and expert panelist Kate McCarthy, alongside a rotating group of current and former players.

Every Monday night, Abbey and Kate will be met by a special guest to tackle all the biggest women’s footy headlines dominating the news cycle, while providing expert match analysis from the previous round, live and free on 7plus.
