A man will face court next month after he allegedly assaulted police at a rugby league match in Sydney.

Officers were removing the football fan from BlueBet Stadium in Penrith when he allegedly punched police just before 10pm.

Pepper spray was used after a short struggle, before the man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.

The alleged incident unfolded in front of crowds during the Penrith Panthers and South Sydney Rabbitohs game. 

The 26-year-old man was charged with assaulting a police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, hindering or resisting police officer in the execution of duty, hindering or obstructing a person aiding law enforcement officer, and destroying or damaging property.

The man was given conditional bail to appear before Penrith Local Court on Thursday, September 26.
