Some snorkellers got a little too up close and personal with a group of humpbacks off Southport on the Gold Coast last week.
One of the group was thrown into the air after finding himself in the path of the whale’s tail.
Queensland Youtubers Max Persyn and Jacqueline Payne were snorkelling with humpbacks in waters off the Gold Coast when they captured the gentle giants’ moment of mayhem.

Surrounded by three whales, the couple were keeping an eye on one beneath them, when the unbelievable happened.
“All of a sudden there was commotion behind us and someone was up on the tail of the whale,” Payne said.
The man on the tail was one of their tour guides, who was lifted from the water.

The tour guide escaped uninjured.
“This was the first time this had happened to him but he was very ecstatic about it,” Persyn said.
