The 20-year-old was taken to Gladesville Police Station and charged with two counts of using a carriage service to access child abuse material.

“I want the public to understand how much child abuse material detectives are locating during these investigations,” Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty, Commander of the Sex Crimes Squad said.

“One terabyte of data is the equivalent to 250,000 photos or 500 hours of HD video,” she said.

“These are images of children, some of the most vulnerable people in our community, being sexually abused.

“My detectives will continue to diligently sift through these images to identify and rescue the children in these images and videos and stop the abuse.

“Since last National Child Protection Week the State Crime Command’s Child Exploitation Unit’s Victim ID team have identified 17 children who have been sexually abused to produce child abuse material.”

The man was refused police bail and appeared in Burwood Local Court Yesterday.
