South Australian firefighter Andy Dunt is the sole winner of Hunted Season 3 on 10.
In the final episode just two teams remained: friends, Romanee & Chelsea and married couple, Andy & Deb.
Both teams were laying low as they awaited details of the Extraction point, Gem Pier in Williamstown. But connecting to online for the info 24 hours before would reveal their locations to the Hunters.
But the Hunters managed to track down the owners of a red Mazda which Romanee & Chelsea had taken to a house in Geelong. Hiding under the house they were discovered and resisted a cash offer to reveal the Extraction point to the Hunters. Generous.
Meanwhile Deb and Andy had made their way to contacts at a Church in Balwyn who, remarkably, had parents who lived on the Williamstown foreshore. It’s as if it had all been scripted….
Hiding out in the final hours in Williamstown they plotted their race to the Extraction point boat, as the Hunters miraculously had managed to sight a boat from their chopper in the sky.
Beating Andy and Deb to the pier were Ground Hunters Kim and Howie, who captured Deb in the final minutes. But Andy jumped into the water and made it to the boat with just seconds to spare, as if like a Hollywood movie climax.
He escaped with $51,500, just $1500 more the $100,000 split between two winners in both 2023 and 2022.
“I was disappointed that I wasn’t on the boat with Deb because we really hoped to be there together, but it was a huge relief that, as a team, we had done it. We put so much effort in and had such a great time,” said Andy.
Deb said of those who aided their run, “We were mind blown that these people didn’t know us, but they gave up their time, resources, money… it was such a surprise to us how much people were willing to put themselves out there. At the end, we really wanted to win for ourselves, but we also wanted to win for the people who had been part of the team and helped us get to the end.”
Andy said: “Once you come home, you just go straight back into your normal life of work, kids and you sort of forget about it, so it’s been awesome re-living it. Deb put herself outside her normal comfort zone going on Hunted and I think it has really expanded her horizons as a person, putting herself in uncomfortable situations and I think she’s grown heaps through the process.”
“We definitely learned a few life lessons and are so, so happy we did it. Absolutely one of the best experiences of our lives, 100 percent,” added Deb.
Despite the Hunters initially declaring their reputations were on the line if anybody made it, boss Reece Dewar later referred to 17 of 18 ‘captures’ as a win after all.
