Two people have died on Sydney’s Northern Beaches when their car crashed into a tree and burst into flames overnight.

The black Toyota Corolla hit a tree and caught fire along Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation, at Balgowlah, about 10.45pm yesterday.

Emergency services were called and firefighters extinguished the blaze.

While yet to be positively identified, the driver is believed to be a 23-year-old man and the passenger, a woman aged 26.

Police say they died before emergency services arrived at the crash scene.

A crime scene has been established and specialist officers are investigating to determine whether speed was a factor.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
