Four Australian shows have been nominated in the International Emmy Awards: ABC’s The Newsreader and iview short Kweens of the Queer Underground, Nine’s The Summit and Prime Video’s Deadloch.
Newsreader creator Michael Lucas yesterday said “The whole Newsreader team were beyond delighted to wake up to this news and have been calling and texting each other like crazy all morning. This nomination is a huge credit to director Emma Freeman, the amazing writers, the dedicated crew and of course that magic ensemble cast.”
“The ABC is delighted that two of our shows have been nominated for the International Emmys,” said ABC Content Director Chris Oliver-Taylor.
“The brilliant Newsreader, produced by the amazing team at Werner Film Productions, hugely deserved and the ABC cannot wait to bring series 3 to Australian audiences in early 2025.
“The ABC is thrilled for our friends at the Sydney Production Company for their nomination for Kweens of the Queer Underground, showcasing queer stories and produced by queer filmmakers which adds to the breadth and range of the ABC commissioning slate – we wish both shows the best of luck for the awards.”
Deadloch creators Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan said, “Yeah nah yeah we’re pretty happy about this to be honest. Obviously it was a team effort and full credit goes to Amazon, Andy Walker, the two Kevins (Whyte and Antarctic Fur Seal), our fantastic crew, and our awesome cast, headed by captains Kate Box and Madeleine Sami.”
Winners will be announced on November 25 at the International Emmy Awards Gala in New York City.
