The discovery of a mysterious bone, which had washed up on Cottesloe Beach in Western Australia, has sparked an investigation.
The exposed bone was found by an off-duty police officer on the sand, just north of the Indiana Tea House around 9am on Saturday.

The officer called in WA Police and brought the bone to the attention of a nearby surf life saving team.
The object itself is about 40 centimeres long and appears to be similar to a femur bone but there’s no word yet on whether it’s human.
A forensic officer spent about 45-minutes at the scene on Saturday morning, inspecting and photographing the bone before it was taken away for further testing.
It will now be up to the State Pathologist to look at photos of the bone before deciding whether it’s necessary to inspect it to determine whether it is from a human.
