Another Aussie Kids TV classic is taking to the stage as a live stage musical.

Li’l Elvis and the Truckstoppers, which screened as 26 episodes on ABC from 1997 – 1998, will open at the Brisbane Powerhouse in January.

First developed in the 1990’s as a joint venture between Australian Children’s Television Foundation and Viskatoons, it featured a voice cast of Stig Wemyss, Nick Giannopoulos, Michael Veitch, Marg Downey, Kylie Belling, Lynda Gibson, Tom E Lewis, Wendy Stapleton and even a young Rove McManus.

In the story Li’l Elvis Jones lives in the tiny outback town of Wannapoo where ten years prior, an old guitar case was left at Grace ‘n’ Len’s Roadhouse. Inside was a baby swaddled in a rhinestone-studded wrap. Dedicated Elvis fans, Grace and Len Jones adopted the boy and named him Li’l Elvis.

The stage production will be directed by Madison Thew Keyworth, who was director / choreographer for productions including Disenchanted, The Wizard of Oz and Mamma Mia.
