Julian Cress, Justin Sturzacker, David Barbour.
Julian Cress is one half of the two men behind 20 seasons of The Block.
Cress, and his co-producing partner David Barbour, are set to embark on their 21st season in Daylesford in 2025. Joining them is seasoned co-producer Justin Sturzacker, in his 15th year.
And there’s no sign of slowing down.
“I’m still enjoying myself. I’ve just literally spent the day today in Daylesford, planning for the new series, and tomorrow I go back to Phillip Island to work on planning for the auction. It’s still a passion project for me,” Cress tells TV Tonight.
“I’ll say this, if people stop watching, then we won’t make it right.”
Season 20 on Phillip Island continues to win its timeslot every night for Nine.
“Right. And therefore, we feel a genuine responsibility to keep making a great show for them. We’re making the show for the fans. We’re not making it for money. We’re making it because people like to watch it, and it gives us a thrill to deliver it to them. It’s a vocation for us, that’s why we do it and if people still want to see it, then who are we to tell them they can’t have it?”
This week casting director Lucky Price announced his departure after 18 seasons. And while applications for 2025 remain open, Cress offered a tip for those submitting their video applications: include your outtakes, don’t be perfect but real.
“The people who show that they have a sense of humor that they will submit their application, including those outtakes, are often the ones that do go through. Because you can tell immediately that this is somebody who potentially could be Ricky & Hayden or Eliza & Liberty you know what I mean? A little bit of self deprecation goes a long way if you’re going to spend 13 weeks renovating a house.”
