A man has been charged after allegedly ramming a police car and injuring an officer.

Victoria Police officers spotted an allegedly stolen car at an address on Seaford Road in the beachside suburb of Seaford in Melbourne about 12pm on Friday.

After officers attempted to stop the man, 34, a police chase began.

Police say the driver reversed into a police car and rammed into it several times.

He then jumped out of the still-moving car and fled the scene on food.

The male police officer in the car was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested the man on Walnut Court in Seaford shortly after.

He was taken to hospital and later charged with multiple offences including two counts of assaulting police, two counts of resisting police and possessing a firearm.

He is due to appear at Frankston Magistrate’s Court on October 16.
