The boss of a cult US cookie shop which hit the headlines after an unauthorised pop-up in Sydney has admitted the saga hastened plans to open in Australia.

Crumbl’s CEO and co-founder Jason McGowan arrived in Australia yesterday to scout locations to open the first branches of the celebrity-favourite brand.

“We have plans to go international but the amazing response from all the Aussies actually jumped our plans to the top of the list,” McGowan told 9news.com.au.

McGowan said the company doesn’t plan to take action against the people behind the unsanctioned pop-up shop, which sold imported cookies to fans in Bondi.

“We just want to make sure that people get really good quality Crumbl and our brand is well represented,” McGowan said.

“We obviously want to make sure we are protecting our brand and people are receiving the product, and the quality that Crumbl is known for in the United States and Canada.

”We’re just so excited by the response of everyone here in Australia.”

He said the company would look at opening one shop initially and would be asking Aussies to vote on where it should be.

He admitted he had been wandering around Bondi to see if the beachside suburb could be a possibility.

The company works with franchisees on its 1000 shops in Canada and the US.

McGowan said he would meet potential franchise partners in Australia.

He said the fact the cookies are made fresh in shops in front of customers made them stand out.

“You can actually see them cracking the eggs, mixing the dough,” he said.

Fans still have a bit of time to wait though, with the aim to open stores in six to 12 months.

The company is famous for celebrity collaborations such as with Kylie Jenner and Olivia Rodrigo, as well as its exotic, ever-changing flavours like key lime pie and caramel apple.
