Move over Vera…
British actress Phyllis Logan, who played Mrs. Hughes in Downton Abbey, has been cast in a new six-part mystery series, The Puzzle Lady.
Based on Parnell Hall’s best-selling novels, she will play Cora Felton, who arrives in the “sleepy market town” of Bakerbury to assist the police with a perplexing murder case.
“The local police are baffled by a crossword puzzle left on the body,” reads the plot summary. “With their case going nowhere, they turn reluctantly to Cora Felton, a recent arrival in Bakerbury. [Her] fame as the eponymous Puzzle Lady suggests she can help DCI Hooper and the Bakerbury police solve its first murder case.
“But the eccentric Cora isn’t who she claims to be… As she throws herself into a murder case that has the town’s residents baffled, she starts to gather allies and enemies in equal measure,” it continues.
The series is commissioned for Channel 5 which would likely mean a 10 Paramount+ playout in Australia, but yet to be confirmed.
Production is underway in Northern Ireland for a 2025 premiere.
