Footage from onboard a weather observation plane flying through Hurricane Milton shows the astonishing moment the crew is buffeted by turbulence.

A team from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) were collecting data when turbulence struck.

Outside the plane, the wind and rain can be seen screaming past as the hurricane bears down on the US coast of Florida.

Two crew members are seen holding on tight to their seats before the plane lurches, sending their equipment flying.

“Pretty good,” one says as they try to remain stable.

“Well damn,” said the other.

“When you get a chance, can you grab my wallet too,” he asks.

“Gotta keep these pockets zipped.”

Boxes and papers are seen strewn inside the cabin.

The plane then appears to enter the eye of the hurricane, as the wind dies down and rain clears.
