Next week SBS VICELAND screens the special, Kate Winslet: A Quest for Authenticity.
Having become an international star thanks to Titanic, Kate Winslet, at only 22, decides to turn to complex female roles. With Holy Smoke by Jane Campion, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by Michel Gondry and Little Children by Todd Field, she lays the foundations of research that she will develop over thirty years, in forty films and two mini-series: the incarnation of authentic and demystified women.
Both multi-award-winning and respected by her peers, the British actress tracks down the injunctions made to women to conform to the patriarchal model and questions female representation in the service of a liberating and emancipatory discourse. At 48, she has become an inspiring role model for many women, well beyond the cinema.
Wednesday, 23 October at 8.30pm on SBS VICELAND.
