Non-profit inclusive filmmaking group Bus Stop Films has announced the Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC as its new patron.
Her patronage will progress the organisation’s advocacy work, including the Driving Change: Disability Employment Summit, which she will officially open on November 18th.
Her Excellency says, “The work of Bus Stop Films celebrates the power and impact of our creative industries and the connection we feel when we share stories that are told authentically and inclusively. Bus Stop is an example of what care and belonging can mean – in both the individual experiences of participants and bringing people’s talents and creativity to the fore. I am delighted to become Patron.”
Entering its 16th year, Bus Stop Films is a disability-led social enterprise that uses filmmaking and the film industry to challenge global attitudes around disability. The organisation enacts creative and capacity-building outcomes for disabled people through education, storytelling, advocacy and employment.
Bus Stop’s Chairman, Peter Tonagh, said, “Given Bus Stop Films now operates across Australia, it is wonderful that we have support of the Governor-General to continue to elevate our work and recognise our community. Our programs change minds and lives, and we hope that through her Patronage, more people will benefit from their impact.”
Retired Governor-General Hurley previously served as Bus Stop’s Patron both as Governor of NSW and Governor-General.
