Warning: Do not read until you have watched the season finale.
If you saw the season finale of Human Error last night you could be forgiven for being a tad confused.
After Holly (Leeanna Walsman) wrapped up the crime that has kept her busy across six episodes, there was a dramatic footnote.
Someone had been shot dead. When she arrived at the crime scene the victim was not revealed.
But the look on Holly’s face spoke volumes. It’s pretty clear she recognised them… but then the credits rolled. Cliffhanger.
So does that mean a second series is coming? It’s a question TV Tonight posed to Nine’s Head of Drama, Andy Ryan.
“Human Error continues to perform extremely well and we’re thrilled that the Overnight and Total TV audiences have grown over the six-episode run,” he said.
“After Episode 2 went to air, we made all six episodes available on 9Now and the result has been terrific with excellent numbers and a series completion rate of almost 100%. Meanwhile overnight numbers have also grown, proving the combination of Channel 9 and 9Now is bringing Australian drama to an even larger audience.”
Surely Nine wouldn’t approve a drama script with a cliffhanger if it didn’t plan more?
“In the season finale, the major crime arc is fully resolved,” he continued. “The murder investigation is solved and our central characters are left to deal with the emotional fallout of all they’ve experienced. One of the reasons audiences have embraced Holly, her colleagues and family is because their lives are messy, complex and relatable.
“Life goes on for them, even after the closing credits of Episode 6.”
Hmmm.
Nine holds its 2025 Upfronts next Thursday in Sydney, hopefully there will be good news given Walsman’s performance and the quality of the show.
