New Kathy Bates drama Matlock, a reboot of the series which originally starred Andy Griffith, has been renewed for a second season.
It won a renewal after just two episodes have aired in the US, with the premiere attracting 10.67m viewers in 3+ days of cross-platform viewing.
“This reconceived Matlock was devised by Jennie Snyder Urman with a brilliant surprise plot twist, and we knew we had something very special the moment we saw the first episode brought to life by the incredibly talented Kathy Bates,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “The audience reception and critical acclaim for it has been overwhelming. We can’t wait to get started on a second season.”
“It’s a miracle; we all keep pinching ourselves,” Bates has also said. “The crew loves it. The actors love it. I know everyone says that when they’re marketing a show, but this is really unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I really can’t believe all this, especially at my age.”
The cast also includes Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, David Del Rio and Leah Lewis; Beau Bridges, Sam Anderson, Eme Ikwuakor and Aaron D. Harris have recurring roles.
It screens in Australia on Paramount+ and from November 4 on 10.
