Music special John Farnham: Celebrating 60 Years will premiere this Thursday, October 31 on Nine.
The special pays tribute to one of Australia’s most legendary entertainers, diving deep into Nine’s archives to unveil never-before-seen footage, long-forgotten performances and untold stories.
From his humble beginnings as a teenage pop sensation to becoming Australia’s most beloved voice, John Farnham has captivated generations of audiences. John Farnham – Celebrating 60 Years revisits his unforgettable moments and features performances that have left an indelible mark on Australian music history.
John Farnham: Celebrating 60 Years reveals exclusive behind-the-scenes content, insightful interviews and rare footage, providing an authentic glimpse into Farnham’s rise to fame, his resilience and the pivotal moments in his career. Fans will hear personal anecdotes from close friends, industry colleagues and Farnham himself, uncovering the stories behind his anthemic hits, including the chart-topping You’re the Voice.
We hear from Kylie Minogue, Ray Martin, Richard Wilkins and General Sir Peter Cosgrove who reflect on John Farnham’s incredible six decade career. Australia’s princess of pop Kylie Minogue said “As a singer performing with him was incredible, but even if you’re not a singer you just go …Wow. He’s beyond defining one generation; he’s inter-generational and his legacy, for sure, will go on and on. John Farnham has a place within all of us, and I am forever a superfan.”
Viewers will also witness never-before-seen performances from Farnham’s early days on the likes of Brian Henderson’s Bandstand and The Don Lane Show, highlighting his evolution from rising star to national treasure. Among the special’s highlights is Farnham’s performance before Queen Elizabeth at the Sydney Opera House and his remarkable contribution to humanitarian efforts, raising millions for drought-stricken communities and entertaining troops in East Timor during the Tour of Duty concert.
As Richard Wilkins notes, this special captures “possibly some of the greatest unseen John Farnham footage ever recorded”.
