When Apple has multiple products to announce they would normally hold a special event, either at their headquarters in California or as an online stream.

This week, the company announced a new iMac, a new Mac mini and today a new MacBook Pro range including another all-new processor.

The MacBook Pro is the crowning jewel of the Apple laptop range, it’s always been aimed at and for the most part the choice of creative professionals working in audio, video and photography production.

This year’s update brings incremental improvements across the board including performance, battery life, screen brightness and connectivity.

Running the newer M4 Apple Silicon, the MacBook Pro is 1.3-times faster than the previous generation M3 but for those wanting the ultimate performance Apple also announced today the third chip in the M4 Apple Silicon lineup, the M4 Max.

With the M4 Max chip there’s of course an increase in performance year on year, but the M4 Pro and Max chips also enable the USB-C ports to support Thunderbolt 4 for dramatically faster data transfer speeds.

Screen brightness on the MacBook Pro M4 range also improves, up to 1000 nits in SDR and 1600 nits in HDR, while all models of MacBook Pro also have the option of a Nano Texture screen which gives an anti-glare coating to dramatically reduce reflections. This is a must-have for those who operate in bright environments or use their MacBook Pro in an on-the-go way, not knowing what the reflections might be at any given time.
