High-dose MDMA tablets are circulating in New South Wales, the health department has warned.
The skull-shaped tablets have been found to contain a higher dose of the drug than usually expected and some also contain another stimulant called dipentylone.
The tablets are either blue, yellow or pink-orange in colour and imprinted with “MYBRAND” wording and logo.

NSW Health has warned that there is limited information on the effects of dipentylone in people, however the risk of MDMA is known to increase when taken with other stimulants.
Dr Darren Roberts, the Medical Director of the NSW Poisons Information Centre, warned festivalgoers in particular, that high doses of MDMA coupled with hot environments can cause serious illness or death.
“MDMA can cause severe agitation, raised body temperature, seizures or fits, irregular heart rhythm and death,” Roberts said.
“The amount of MDMA in a tablet or capsule can vary significantly, even within the same batch.”

He implored MDMA users to be mindful of the risks in festival environments.
“Taking a break from dancing, seeking shade and drinking water are important measures to reduce the risk of overheating.”
“It is very important to remember if you or a friend has taken drugs and feel unwell, you won’t get into trouble for seeking medical care.
“If you or a friend feels unwell, please seek help immediately by calling Triple Zero (000).
“There are experienced onsite medical providers and teams of well-trained peer volunteers from programs such as DanceWize NSW who are ready to support you at many major festivals.
“Other event staff are also trained to help patrons.”
