A young girl has helped steer her school bus to safety after the driver suffered a medical episode on the Gold Coast.

The bus is understood to have come to a stop in the gutter near the intersection of Southport Nerang Road and Olsen Avenue at Southport around 3.30pm today.

9News understands about 25 school students were on board at the time. None were injured.

Paramedics told 9News the driver was being treated for a suspected heart attack.

They said the actions of the young girl were “remarkable”.

The driver has been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Delays are expected with motorists advised to proceed with caution.
