A display device that shows off floating, lit-up shoes has been pulled off the shelves at Culture Kings over magnet fears.

The CXF-22 and CXF-24B Sneaker Basel Magnetic Levitation Sneaker Displays have been hit with a recall notice.

The shoes contain magnets in the heels, which makes them levitate in the display.

But Product Safety Australia said the magnets were “very strong” and needed to be kept at least 16cm apart.

“The sneaker display’s magnets can forcefully attract, break, splinter and emit sparks, posing a laceration hazard,” the recall notice said.

“In addition, when two or more high-powered magnets are swallowed, either accidentally or intentionally, the ingested magnets can attract each other and become lodged in the digestive system.

“This can lead to perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines that can lead to infection and death.

“Injuries have occurred in Australia and the USA.”

Customers who have purchased one of the displays should stop using it and keep the magnets apart.

If the magnets have come together, do not try to separate them.

Purchasers are entitled to a full refund, and Culture Kings will publish details of how to obtain it, PSA said.
