UK medical thriller, Malpractice, coming soon to Seven, has been renewed for a second season.

The series begins with a nightmare shift in A&E during which a patient dies, leading to Doctor Lucinda Edwards faces an investigation into her fitness to practise.

Series one had the most watched launch episode of a new drama on ITV1 in 2023 with 6.7m viewers based on 28-day viewing and has sold to more than 70 countries.

Filming is underway in Belfast with returning cast Helen Behan (The Virtues, Elizabeth is Missing) and Jordan Kouamé (Scoop) reprising their roles as Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei of the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU), brought in to investigate a new doctor accused of malpractice.

Joining Helen and Jordan are Tom Hughes (Victoria, The English), Selin Hizli (Am I Being Unreasonable, Mum), Zoë Telford (Sherlock, The Lazarus Project), Hannah McClean (Blue Lights, Josh), Seraphina Beh (Polite Society, Top Boy) and Ace Bhatti (Line of Duty, Bohemian Rhapsody).

CEO of World Productions, Simon Heath, said, “Grace has delved even deeper into her personal history as a Consultant Psychiatrist to deliver a both a brilliant thriller and timely look at a critical area of the NHS. Her great writing has once again attracted a stellar cast to join Helen and Jordan to tell this new story.”

Season 1 will screen on Seven later this month.

Dr Lucinda Edwards is a smart, battle-hardened doctor, but we meet her on a nightmare shift that ends in the death of an opioid overdose victim. When the patient’s grieving father demands an enquiry into Lucinda’s actions, she is plunged into a malpractice investigation, led by Dr Norma Callahan and Lucinda’s former colleague Dr George Adjei. While George feels this was an unavoidable tragedy, Norma is suspicious of Lucinda’s behaviour. As the pressure of the investigation intensifies, Lucinda’s confident professional exterior begins to crack. Is she hiding something?
