Perth’s new music festival, which boasted international headliners including Jorja Smith, J Hus and Headie One, has been abruptly cancelled just days after tickets went on sale.

Promise Village was due to fill out Langley Park in Perth this October thanks to a highly anticipated lineup.

But would-be festivalgoers woke up to find they were unable to purchase any tickets.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances Promise Village on the 12th of October 2024 will no longer be going ahead,” a message on ticket seller Megatix reads.

“Refunds have been automatically processed so no action is required.

“Please allow up to five business days for the funds to reach your account used for purchase.”

Promise Village, presented by Triple J, last week said it had more than 5000 people signed up for its presale.

Presale tickets went public only five days ago while general sale tickets dropped two days ago.

The festival’s cancellation was as sudden as its event announcement earlier this month.

“Promise Village is officially on its way. Lineup boasting some global superstars,” organisers said in a social media post two weeks ago.

Promise Village has yet to publicly address its cancellation.

The festival organisers have been contacted for comment.

The news is sure to leave music lovers – who earlier swarmed social media to say “Perth getting what it deserves” and “so excited” – disappointed.

But Promise Village is just the latest in a series of Australian music festivals to announce their sudden cancellation this year.

New South Wales’ Splendour in the Grass, Sunshine Coast’s Caloundra Music Festival, Victoria’s Coastal Jam and Adelaide’s Vintage Vibes Festival have all been forced to axe their event over financial pressures.

The conversation has entered parliament, with an inquiry underway to understand the challenges within the industry.
