Nothing gets past Garry Youngberry when it comes to weather.

The reliable forecaster has been the 9News Queensland weather presenter since 2009, reporting on cyclones, floods, drought and the devastating afternoon storms the Sunshine State is known for.

But while it wasn’t strictly weather based, he did miss something in the skies over Brisbane tonight.

Rugged up in a Maroons scarf and beanie against the uncommonly chilly 8 degree wind chill factor, Youngberry had only just started updating Queenslanders on their forecast when a meteoroid passed behind him.

From his perch above Caxton Street, just a few hundred metres from where the State of Origin decider would play out a few hours later, the shooting star could be clearly seen falling over Brisbane’s western suburbs.

But it wasn’t until later that someone in the newsroom flagged the falling space rock.

Tomorrow should be a little warmer in the south-east, after freezing temperatures provoked a light dusting of snow just north of the NSW border.

After failing to pass 17 today, Brisbane can expect 20 degrees tomorrow, with the same temperature on the Gold Coast and a degree cooler on the Sunshine Coast.
