A man has been charged with over 100 offences after allegedly filming women and girls with a camera hidden in his walking stick.

The 56-year-old man is accused of inappropriately filming and taking photos of female shoppers at a centre in Mount Ommaney in Brisbane between November 2023 and January 2024.

It’s alleged that, during one incident on January 6, the man used a secret small camera attached to the end of a walking stick to film a 12-year-old girl on an escalator.

The girl’s family reported the incident to police.

He was arrested at the shopping centre on January 11.

Police allege his camera contained indecent videos and photographs of women taken in public areas in the centre without their permission.

They found more images at a house in Jamboree Heights in the city’s south west.

The man was was initially charged with three counts of observations or recording in breach of privacy, one breach of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (taking photographs) and one count of attempted observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

He appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 28, 2024, and was remanded in custody.

He was later charged with an additional 94 offences.

This brings the total of charges to 110, including 106 counts of observations or recording in breach of privacy, one count each of indecent treatment of child under 16 (taking photograph), attempted recordings in breach of privacy, and two counts of stalking.

He is due to appear in court again on Friday.
