A man has been charged after a crash which left three people dead in Queensland.

A bus with 33 people on board was travelling north along the Bruce Highway at Gumlu on June 3 when police said the vehicle crossed to the wrong side of the road and struck a Land Cruiser station wagon travelling in the opposite direction.

A 56-year-old woman from Townsville died in the crash.

Two women from Germany, aged 21 and 33, were also killed.

Several other bus passengers were also injured.

Following extensive investigations, police arrested the man who was driving the bus.

The 52-year-old from North Ward has been charged with five counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm.

He was due before Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

The man is due to reappear at Bowen Magistrates Court on September 24.
