A man has been charged with kidnapping offences after allegedly holding a woman hostage in Sydney’s south-west.

The man, 29, allegedly held a 29-year-old woman known to him against her will and assaulted her while he was believed to be armed with a firearm.

Police found the man and woman on Badgally Road in Claymore, near Campbelltown, at 8.45pm yesterday.

They were initially called to the area at 5pm after a concern for welfare report.

The man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station, where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), common assault and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic).

A firearm has not been located, but police say there is no ongoing risk to the public.

He was refused bail by police and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court later today.
