The first day of the Australian Children’s Content Summit saw over a hundred pitching and networking sessions between delegates in Coffs Harbour.

In addition to a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, guests were treated to a performance by the Giingan Yiiliwiyay Girrwaa group, a dance group from Coffs Harbour, Gumbaynggirr Country.

ACCS Ambassador Emma Watkins also proved a popular figure with the younger dancers -even Auntie Jenny said her children grew up watching The Wiggles.

Screen NSW also hosted Opening Night drinks.

Head of Screen NSW Kyas Hepworth said, “Children’s content is a vital part of the wider screen industry, and we’re building off a strong base in New South Wales. In the the 2022-23 Screen Australia drama report, New South Wales set a record for screen sector spend for the third year in a row. This is a testament to the work of our New South Wales practitioners. New South Wales accounted for more than half of the spend at over $1.2 billion.

“The Screen New South Wales is thrilled to support the second year of this summit. As this summit continues to champion the advancement of the Children’s screen industry in Australia, reinforcing the cultural and economic significance of this vibrant sector.

“The Children’s screen industry supports a wide ecosystem: creators, producers, writers, directors, actors, crew, post houses and 1000s of ancillary businesses, all which drive innovation and storytelling in Australia,” she said.

“I just wanted to say Screen New South Wales has recently provided over $100,000 towards development funding of various children’s projects, including slate development funding for Cheeky Little Media and Big Seriouserious Studios. And through production finance and PDV, we’ve supported titles such as the amazing Kangaroo Beach and 200% Wolf.

Today the conference will get stuck into panels with speakers from broadcasters from Australia and overseas discussing a wide range of topics in Children’s Content (which is almost a shame given the perfect weather!).
