A promotion for Shaun Micallef’s Eve of Destruction was altered after two viewers complained to ABC.
Two viewers raised concerns that a promotion included an inappropriate image of a demolished house and reference to a missile strike.
The show centres around the premise, ‘If your house was about to be destroyed, what two things would you save?’ Micallef interviews guests such as Rebecca Gibney, Stephen Curry, Felix Cameron, Kate Langbroek, Robyn Butler and Jimmy Rees, before a studio audience.
The ABC team responsible for the promotion advised that it was intended as a joke relating to the premise of the new show, but acknowledged that it was not ‘tonally appropriate.’
The ABC Ombudsman, who investigates formal complaints, confirmed the team removed the ‘missile strike’ line and replaced the image of the demolished house so that it instead resembled a construction site.
