A bushfire burning in the NSW Hunter Valley has been downgraded, but is still out of control.
The fire is in Tomago, near Newcastle.
Earlier, the NSW RFS has warned people in the rural area that it is too late to leave.

The bush fire is burning near Old Punt Road, 3km south of Heatherbrae.
“The fire is burning in an easterly direction towards the Tomago Road,” the RFS has said.
“The fire has burnt through 66 hectares and is yet to be controlled.
“People in the vicinity of Tomago Road and Westrac Drive are advised to monitor conditions.”
Strong winds are battering NSW and Sydney.
A total fire ban is in place.
