Melania Trump has suggested there is “more to the story” of the assassination attempt on her husband, in a promotional video for her new memoir.

Donald Trump survived a gunman’s attempt to kill him at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.

Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on the Republican presidential candidate as Trump took to the stage.

Trump was wounded in the ear and a rally-goer was killed before Crooks was shot dead by Secret Service counter-snipers.

In a new video posted to Instagram, Melania Trump said it had been a “horrible, distressing experience”.

“Now, the silence around it feels heavy,” she said.

“I can’t help but wonder, why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?

“There is definitely more to this story and we need to uncover the truth.”

After her short speech, a graphic showing her self-titled memoir “Melania” appears on the screen.

Investigators have not yet pinpointed a motive for Crooks, other to say that he had googled both Trump and US President Joe Biden, as well as rally locations.

He had also researched previous presidential assassinations.

Crooks was spotted on the day by several law enforcement officials, with one of them climbing up to the roof where the would-be killer was waiting.

He dropped down when he saw Crooks had a gun, only for the shooting to begin moments later.

Although the attempt on Trump’s life has been widely regarded as a security failure by the Secret Service, there has been no suggestion by investigators that anybody besides Crooks was aware of his intent to shoot Trump.

Local law enforcement were critical of the Secret Service’s lack of communication or consultation in the lead up to the rally, claiming it had led to security gaps on the day.
