“The sound of the rims breaking, smashing everywhere, it was just a huge bang,” witness Joel McCallum said.

“When I saw the footage and I saw the person walking, my heart sank a little bit.

“It’s a daunting and confronting thing to see.”

The Mitsubishi driver, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are in the process of identifying the woman and notifying her family.

Detectives are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash.
